Product description

🌿 Ajwain (Carom) Seed – 1kg

Grow a high-value spice crop with Ajwain (Carom) Seed from KISANWORLD Marketing Lahore. Ajwain (Trachyspermum ammi, also called carom or ajowan) is a cold-season (rabi) crop of the carrot family, grown for its spice seed. It suits fertile, well-drained loam soil and has moderate drought tolerance, which makes it a useful option for farmers looking to diversify.

💰 Ajwain Seed Price in Pakistan

🌱 Seed Rate per Acre

  • By drill (chopa): 2 kg per acre (two 1 kg packs)
  • By broadcasting (chhatta): 4 kg per acre (four 1 kg packs)

📅 Sowing Time

  • Last week of September to 15 November

🚜 How to Sow

  • Prepare a fine, moist, well-levelled seedbed. Ajwain seed is very small and its germination is comparatively low, so a fine seedbed matters
  • Sow very shallow, not deeper than about half an inch (1 cm). Seed sown too deep will not emerge
  • For line sowing, keep the row distance about 1.5 ft (45 cm)
  • For even broadcasting, mix the seed with fine dry sand or soil
  • Seedlings emerge in about 10 to 12 days under good moisture

💧 Irrigation and Crop Care

  • Give light irrigation as needed. Avoid waterlogging
  • Keep the field weed-free in the early stage with hoeing (godi)
  • Ajwain is sensitive to frost, so sow at the recommended time

⏱️ Crop Duration and Harvest

  • The crop matures in about 4 to 5 months. Autumn sowing is usually harvested around March to April
  • Harvest gently. The seed heads shatter easily, and seed that falls to the ground is very hard to collect
  • After cutting, dry the plants in the shade for several days, then thresh and clean the seed

📊 Expected Yield

  • With irrigation and good management, about 10 to 15 maunds per acre (company guidance)
  • Under rainfed conditions yields are much lower (research reports roughly 4 to 6 maunds per acre)

🌾 Suitable Soil

Fertile, well-drained loam is best. Sandy, saline (kallar), waterlogged or very poor soils are not suitable.
